Seestar Won't Connect? Fix Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Station Mode
Why the Seestar app can't find or connect to your S30, S30 Pro, S50 or S50 Pro, and how to fix it: the Wi-Fi reset button, the default hotspot password, what the power light means, Android's manual connection and Station Mode.
Quick fix
Restart the Seestar and the app first. If your phone can't see the Seestar's Wi-Fi at all, hold the Wi-Fi reset button on the bottom for about 3 seconds. On Android, join the hotspot manually (default password 12345678). Stay within 10 m. For Station Mode, use a home network your phone is on too, and not one in the 10.0.0.x address range.
Every Seestar creates its own Wi-Fi hotspot, and the Seestar app talks to it over that hotspot plus Bluetooth. Most connection problems come from the phone not joining that hotspot, being too far away, or trying to use the internet at the same time. These steps follow ZWO's user manuals and FAQ for the S30, S30 Pro, S50 and S50 Pro.
1. Check the power light
The power light tells you what the Seestar is doing. From ZWO's S50 Pro manual:
| Power light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red, breathing quickly | On, not activated yet |
| Red, breathing slowly | On, waiting for a connection |
| Yellow (alt-az) or green (EQ mode), solid | Connected |
| Yellow, blinking | Wi-Fi reset in progress |
| Red, blinking | Wi-Fi reset failed, or switching Wi-Fi |
| Yellow, blinking fast | Firmware update in progress (don't switch off) |
| Red blinking with all 4 battery lights flashing | Boot failure: charge fully, then contact support |
Older models use similar colors; check your model's manual if a pattern doesn't match.
2. Restart both sides
Close the Seestar app completely, switch the Seestar off (hold the power button about 2–3 seconds; a 6-second hold forces it off) and on again, then reopen the app and tap Connect. Make sure the app has Bluetooth, location and local network permissions; ZWO's manual says these are needed "to facilitate a smooth connection".
3. If your phone can't see the Seestar's Wi-Fi
ZWO's fix is the Wi-Fi reset button on the bottom of the telescope: press and hold it for about 3 seconds. The power light blinks yellow, then turns solid yellow when the reset is done. If it blinks red, the reset failed; try again or contact ZWO.
4. On Android, connect manually
ZWO notes that Android phones can't join the Seestar hotspot automatically. Open your phone's Wi-Fi settings, choose the network named after your Seestar's serial number (for example S50 Pro_xxxxxx), and enter the default password 12345678. Then return to the app.
5. Stay close and remove interference
ZWO rates the Wi-Fi range at up to 10 m and Bluetooth at up to 5 m, measured in the open with nothing in between. Walls, windows, a metal table or a crowded Wi-Fi area all shorten that. T3's reviewer found the range limiting "even" in a small backyard. Move closer, or use Station Mode (below).
6. Keep the phone off the internet while observing
While your phone is on the Seestar's Wi-Fi it has no internet over Wi-Fi; ZWO says to use mobile data if you need internet at the same time. If your phone keeps jumping back to your home network because the Seestar network has no internet, tell it to stay connected, or temporarily forget your home network.
7. If activation fails
First-time activation needs internet and a ZWO account. ZWO's manual says to keep the app open during activation; if it fails midway, switch your phone to a working network or home Wi-Fi, return to the app and tap "Try Again". Note that China-version Seestars can only be activated in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Station Mode problems
Station Mode connects the Seestar to your home Wi-Fi so your phone can stay on the internet and you can control it from indoors. Turn it on in the app under the device's Wi-Fi settings, choose your home network and enter its password; your phone must be on the same network.
If Station Mode won't connect:
- Try the other band. The Seestar supports 2.4 and 5 GHz. ZWO's support team (posting as Support@Seestar on ZWO's user forum, November 2025) says that if your home network doesn't appear in the list, switch the Wi-Fi band and try again.
- Check your router's address range. In the same reply, ZWO support says Seestar "does not support connecting to WiFi network in the 10.0.0.x subnet". If your router hands out 10.0.0.x addresses, change its LAN IP range in the router's settings (often under LAN or network settings), restart the router and reconnect.
- Mesh systems can hide or block new devices; set up Station Mode close to the main router.
- Fall back to the hotspot. If Station Mode keeps failing, the Seestar still works normally on its own hotspot.
When to contact ZWO
If the light shows a boot failure, a Wi-Fi reset keeps failing, or the Seestar won't power on after a full charge, contact ZWO support through seestar.com with your serial number and a photo of the lights. A connection problem right after an update may be a firmware issue; see Seestar firmware update failed.
Still not working?
If the fixes above don’t help and your telescope is out of warranty, a repair can cost more than a replacement. Compare current models before you pay for parts.
